Methodology, briefly

Verdicts start from federal occupation data: the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS). For each discipline's underlying occupation codes, Atlas compares median wage and national employment against peer AEC occupations; high relative wage and a small national pool read as scarce. Where a specialty is documented to be tighter than its broad occupation code suggests (CEQA/NEPA permitting inside Urban Planners, for example), an industry floor lifts the verdict and the reasoning is shown on the discipline's page. A small number of disciplines with no clean federal code carry an expert-curated verdict, labeled as such. Nothing here predicts any individual's behavior; these are descriptive labor-market statistics.
